A centre was established that held its Saturday morning sessions at Blakiston Primary School
• ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FIRST BURSARY CENTRE (1992)
Supported by SIDA for children who could not afford fees, it held its sessions at Chitsere Primary School in Mbare
• ZATCYP (1993)
The founding of the Zimbabwe Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ZATCYP) – ASSITEJ/IATA, of which CHIPAWO became an active member until its demise in 2006

CHIPAWO’s Trust Deed was drawn up by a legal firm but due to an oversight only registered with the Deeds Office in 2002.
• OFFICE (1997)
Establishment of an office and full-time secretariat with help from the Government of the Netherlands
• 10TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS (1999)
An exhibition, reception, dinner and concert were organised to celebrate this landmark occasion

The Media Centre was officially opened by the Head of ZBC Television with equipment purchased by SIDA

Launched with the help of Africa Online at a Reception at the Children’s Media Centre
• CHILDREN AGAINST AIDS FESTIVAL (2000)
A children’s arts, discussion, advocacy and information festival by children for children on HIV/AIDS with Oliver Mtukudzi one of the performers.
• 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD (2000)
CHIPAWO organised the National Event to commemorate the anniversary at Chitsere in Mbare

CHIPAWO begins to bring its arts education programmes to children all over Zimbabwe

Participation in the World Expo in Hanover, Germany

CHIPAWO participated nationally in this very successful multi-media campaign for the Ministry of Justice funded by DFID
• APPROACHES TO ARTS EDUCATION WORLDWIDE SEMINAR (2002)
With the help of UNESCO, the Academy organised a regional seminar on arts education
• UNTED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPECIAL SESSION ON CHILDREN (2002)
CHIPAWO was the only Zimbabwean NGO to send a child to the Children’s Forum and the General Assembly. CHIPAWO also presented a side event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
• EARTH SUMMIT (2002)
Participation in the Earth Summit on the Environment in Johannesburg
• ACADEMY (2003)
The Academy launched it first pilot intake for the diploma in performing arts and media arts. It also established its administration in rented premises.
• UMOJA (2003-)
CHIPAWO became involved in this regional Norwegian funded arts initiative
• DISADVANTAGED RURAL CHILDREN CENTRES (2003-)
Facilitated the establishment of 20 arts education, gender and poverty reduction centres in disadvantaged rural schools nationwide
• REPS THEATRE (2003-)
Making history CHIPAWO began developing indigenous repertory theatre at the Reps Theatre in Harare, traditionally a white venue.
• ZHOU YAKANAKA (2003)
In an unprecedented people-to-people exchange, a party of children from the Yue Xiu Children’s Palace in Guang Zhou, China, were invited to visit Zimbabwe where they had two weeks of encounters with children, performances and sight-seeing, including a Gala Concert with CHIPAWO at the Harare International Conference Centre. The whole experience was paid for by CHIPAWO and local corporate support.
• KWANATETE GIRLS CLUBS AND CAMPS (2004)
Piloted 24 girls clubs and a camp for mentoring and empowering girls nationwide
• GIRL POWER CENTRE (2004-)
Established a high-powered all girl arts, media and life skills mentoring, peer education and performance centre
• STEEL BAND (2004)
Introduction of the steel band and steel band music into Zimbabwe with the formation of Cool Steel
• DEAF TELEVISION (2005)
A pioneering first in television in Sign Language for and by the deaf in Zimbabwe with a 13 part series entitled ‘HandSpeak’

Pioneering the concept of a first for Africa Children’s Expo – to be introduced in June 2006
• HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN BICENTENARY (2005)
CHIPAWO’s celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth made Zimbabwe the only African country to participate in the world wide commemoration and on the Official Website
