This posting was a bit delayed because of the feverish preparations for "Christmas Street", the annual children's Christmas Show. Today is the party - nearly 200 children whooping it up after their great performances on Saturday, gorging themselves with goodies bought and donated to them by the Diplomatic Spouses - many thanks in particular to Sintia, the wife of the Ambassador of South Africa, and Evelyn, wife of the Ambassador of Greece! The details coming up soon. EVERY CHILD COUNTS Is competition a good way to develop the arts among children?
(On Saturday 28th November CHIPAWO children came together for a festival. It was a very child-friendly time to launch the CHIPAWO 20th anniversary - and this was duly done by the Executive Director, acting for the Chairman, who was absent in Malawi at a SADC Theatre Festival. The following are two perspectives on the day, by two different observers but fundamentally raising the same question: "Is competition a good way to develop the arts among children?" The first is by Mnatsi Zhou, the CHIPAWO ITC Officer, and the second by myself.) |
