The Global Climate Campaign was represented at the packed Climate Justice seminar, with speakers from the Campaign against Climate Change, UK and the Global Action Group, Turkey, both promoting the GDA.
At the 'Mobilisation for Poznan and Copenhagen' Climate Assembly much practical progress was made towards building for the Global Days of Action this year on December 6th, marking the Poznan Talks, and next year marking the critical 2009 CopenhagenTalks. The following statement, approved by Campaign against Climate Change UK, Global Action Group Turkey, Friends of the Earth International, the Climate Movement Denmark, Klimataktion Sweden and Global Climate Campaign Poznan 2008 was read out at the Assembly of Social Movements : "This assembly believes that the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate poses an imminent threat to humanity. The primary responsibility rests with the richer and longest industrialised countries of the North which are responsible for the overwhelming majority of emissions so far. We demand urgent and large scale emissions reductions from these countries as part of an international emissions reductions agreement that is both equitable and effective in preventing catastrophic climate change. To this end we are calling for a GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION on climate on DECEMBER 6th 2008, during the Poznan climate talks, with demonstrations in Poznan itself and all around the world. We are further calling for a massive international mobilisation next year to mark the critical COPENHAGEN talks in DECEMBER 2009." The final paragraph with the call for mobilisations for Poznan and Copenhagen was included in the opening statement from the Call to Action from the Assembly of Movements - see here.
